The first week of February 2026 brought unusually cold temperatures to South Florida; The region saw temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees with wind chills down in the 20’s and high teens. This weather caused a unique opportunity: Collect “Frozen Iguanas” when they fall from the trees!
When temperatures get below freezing, Iguanas go into a dormant state to protect themselves. By slowing down their heart rate, they go into a comatose-like state and are unable to control their motor functions. This leads to the phenomenon of iguanas falling from the trees! IggyTrap took full advantage of the opportunity- IggyTrap lent their teams’ full support across the entire region, working with county governments, local municipalities, and assisting the general public (both private homeowners and commercial properties) with facilitating safe and humane removals of fallen iguanas.
Over the course of the week, IggyTrap removed over 2000+ iguanas. IggyTrap’s dedicated staff members across the region set aside their plans, bundled up in 15-degree wind chills on their Sunday off-day to get the job done to protect our properties, and be good stewards of the natural South Florida environment. IggyTrap is extremely proud of their teams’ unwavering dedication to the mission and hard work.
This hard work did not go unnoticed; The sheer success of IggyTrap’s massive removal haul earned the attention of media across the globe; IggyTrap was interviewed live by NBC 6 South Florida and Reuters, respectively, as well as covered in the Sun Sentinel. Their stories spread quickly, being picked up by dozens of national news organizations and with stories reaching news stations in Australia, Germany and Turkey.
IggyTrap appreciates all those who have shared our hard work and helped us over the course of the 2026 cold snap- especially those who used it as a chance to educate, assist, and directly impact the goal of reducing the negative impacts of Invasive Wildlife.
IggyTrap’s goal remains simple- build and deliver the most cutting-edge and effective products and services for remediating against invasive and nuisance wildlife.
