Removing Iguanas from Your Roof

Many homeowners are noticing more iguanas around their homes. These bright green lizards can climb high and hide in tough spots. But leaving iguanas on your roof is a horrible idea. They can cause major trouble and damage to your home and health.  We will explain exactly why removing iguanas properly is so important and how our professional help can protect your property and family.

Structural Damage to Your Home

First – I Iguanas are very social, so if only see one on your roof. You can be assured there are many more. So don’t allow yourself to disregard the sighting and being nothing! Seeing just one Iguana should set off alarm bells. Think if you saw rats running all over your roof? This is the same thing, only worse!

Iguanas have discovered just how much they love to climb and find cozy spots on rooftops. They get everything they desire in one place. They get never ending warmth from the radiant heat your roof puts off 24/7. Even on cloudy days the roof has stored heat in the attic that can last for days.

The worse thing you can do is underestimate the amount of damage they can do to your roof. Once they’ve found your roof, they’ll start looking for a way into the attic. They’ll look for open vents. If they can’t find an opening, they’ll make one. Peal back flashing, push in where the roofs meet the gutters. Lastly, they will actually break the tiles looking for access. All of the activities will eventually lead to roof leaks causing even more damage.

Once in the attic, they’ll make a HUGE mess. They’ll pee and poop everywhere. A huge health hazard. They can also damage wiring. For example, they may chew on electrical wires or rip apart insulation.

This weakens the roof and can lead to more leaks or even collapse over time. Loose or broken tiles become easy targets. If ignored, these small damages turn into costly repairs. Long-term, your roof might not hold up against storms or heavy rain. To add insult to injury, all the openings they make will make it even easier for other pests to gain access to the interior of your house.

Attic removals are extremely expensing. The iguanas have all the advantages.  We have to enter spaces that are very tight, nails sticking out everywhere, temperatures exceeding 130 degrees, all while taking care not to fall through the ceiling. All while trying to a very fast reptile.
